Big Match Striker is a pretty unique beast indeed. Part online quiz, part MMO, it offers a challenge very few games can compete with, and a level of depth to match. Around 8 Months ago, we did drop the original press release about the game and since then it has come through its inital beta stage into the market place, and is a very decent title indeed.
Showing my age here, and maybe alienating many non-UK fans, but Big Match Striker is very similar to that of the games played on Live & Kicking on a Saturday Morning. The colourful graphics and slick animation are all predetermined and unchangable, yet the questions influence which animation follows. You will be asked a series of up to date football questions, to which you press a corresonding arrow key to chose your answer. Meanwhile, your opponent, a realy human from somewhere else in the real world will be doing exactly the same to the same question. In true fasted finger first style, answer correctly and you will move forward with the ball, if your opponent answers first you will lose possesion, with your opponent getting the choice of question type when they have possession.
It sounds quite complicated, but the joy is, it really isn’t Providing you have a half decent internet connection and a working and active football brain, Big Match Striker becomes a genuinely enjoyable and rewarding gaming experience. The fact the inital gaming client is available to download for free is also a nice bonus, and it is a quick, easy to set up and simple alternative to playing fantasy football online, with a group of friends all being able to play in the same league.
The MMO apsect comes in the form of Big Match Bucks, which can be purchased using real money from the Big Match Striker website. They allow you to purchase Stamina (which means your team can ‘play’) and Smackers (which means you can purchase new players for your team).
Instead of me doing a unsuccessful job of explaining how the MMO side of Big Match Striker, the FAQ section of the website does a superb job of making sense of it all. It talks about editing kits, buying players and even improving your stadium! All of this is a tidy addition to the standalone quiz game, which would have been a decent enough game by itself.
Add to the mix leader boards and facebook connectivity, and you are left witha truly immersive experience that is well worth a look.
